Thanks, Sue from the Burdekin Association
Thanks Sue for the kind words.
On behalf of The Burdekin Association I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to you and your team (in particular our fabulous instructor Tom) for the opportunity to experience what surfing is all about.
Our young people had such a great time trying something new and we even have a convert who would like to get her own board some day and continue on the journey of learning to surf.
There were several others who were unable to attend on the day due to appointments, etc so we hope to make another booking down the track with your great school. I noticed some young people with smiles so wide who rarely have much to smile about. For me seeing their happy faces was the highlight
Tom did a great job in getting everyone up on waves and gave great individual attention. Please pass on our thanks to Tom from us.
Yours very kindly,
The Burdekin Association
Fraser Dovall U18 Australian Champion
Fraser Dovall, 15 years old from Avalon Won the Australian Title U18 Blue Ribbon event yesterday.
It was a frantic Final with NSW Champion Monty Tait leading the final with Luke Hynd and Jacob Willcox. Fraser was coming 1 minute to go. Fraser took a 2 metre left hander of the Leader Monty Tait and Smashed two powerful backhand re-entries to lock in a 9.5 point ride and take the lead. Monty needed a 4 point ride to overcome Fraser . The clock counted down and Fraser was the new Australian Champion. Fraser was Chaired up the beach by his fellow Surfing NSW Team Mates. (Fraser 1st, Monty Tait, 2nd, Luke Hynd 3rd, Jacob Willcox 4th, Mikey Wright 5th).
It was a great week for the Surfing NSW Team . High Performance Coaches Matt Grainger (Surfing NSW High Performance Coach), Blake Johnston (NSW Coaching Director),Glenn Hall (WCT Surfer), Sandra English , Martin Dunn and Andy KIng( SURFING Australia Head Coach) conducted a 2 day Training camp running the 35 person squad through various training drills to get the team Sharp and focussed.
Fraser had a great preparation plan leading up to the Australian Titles. He went on a Surf Trip to the Mentawai Islands in Sumatra scoring a 2-3 metre swell surfing Green Bush, HTs and Macaronis. Honing his backhand attack.
He started a 6 week High Performance Training Program with Matt Grainger with Manly Surf School / High Performance Surf Coaching , with 9 of his fellow Team Mates at Knox College training twice a week. He Trained with his fellow school mates on Technique and competition drills,at Long Reef Beach scoring some good swells. Fraser did regular Fitness Training sessions with Mick Seaton to improve his core strength and leg power. Fraser Continues to train with Matt Grainger in between competition.
Fraser started surfing as a 6 year old attending a Manly Surf School program at Palm Beach 9 years ago, taught by fellow Avalon surfer Shane Conwell. We went to surf with his dad Andy Dovall. Fraser will be teaching at Palm Beach these school holidays teaching young kids alongside Shane Conwell.
Fraser has come full circle willing to impart knowledge and expertise onto the next Australian Champion.
He will also be heading to P Pass with his mum Sue and Andy Dovall to work on his frontside tube riding in January.

Ripcurl Bikini Tour
A BIG thanks to everyone who was involved in the recent Ripcurl bikini tour sessions!
Thanks to the Long Reef Instructors
Just wanted to give you some feedback from this morning’s lesson at Long Reef.
Both my sons are HFA (high functioning autistic) and my youngest especially has difficulty interpreting verbal instructions (especially with other distractions like the sound of the surf crashing all around). The two senior instructors took great care with my sons – they were gentle and articulate and encouraging. My sons walked away from this mornings’ session filled with confidence and gagging to get back for tomorrow’s session.
Fun in G Land
Indo for my Birthday last year.
Surfing Rehabilitation Programs
Manly surf school are running rehabilitation programs to help persons to return back to surfing after an injury. Matt Grainger and his team have worked with many clients over the years to get them back into the surf. Lessons are 30 mins or 60 minute private lessons.
Email from the guys at Surfhour Challenge
On behalf of the Surfhour Challenge team I wanted to thank you for your generous support and involvement in the inaugural Surfhour Challenge.
The event was incredibly successful in its first year with 70 participants, 400 donors and has so far raised over $28,000. The money raised will be divided equally between the our two nominated charities, The Gidget Foundation and Surfaid International.
Along with our aim of raising money for charity we also wanted to unite the surfing and watersports communities by participating in a fun event with friends and family.
In particular the interest you took in it from the start meant we could get it off the ground and of course the advertising of the event through your facebook contacts meant we could get the word out to the surfing community.
We could not have done it without your support (especially in the early stages when we were working out what to do!) and thanks very much for the the surf lessons donated which were given as prizes to people who did fundraising for the event.
The event was promoted via Channel 10, APN Media, Coastalwatch, Surfing NSW, Pam Burridge Surf School, the Manly Daily, the Wentworth Courier, Aquabumps and Sprout Daily. Our other sponsors and prize donators included Peter’s Icecream, Hotys Cinemas, Surf Dive ‘n Ski, Surf Composites, Global Surf Industries, Rancan Sisters Fitness, Surfection Mosman, Physiocise, Next Media, Ocean and Earth and the North Narrabeen Wax Company.
Once again, thank you for your generous support and we look forward to continuing the partnership with you next year for the second annual Surfhour Challenge.
Martelle and the Surfhour challenge team, Jules Walsh, Stephanie Hughes and Jules Duthie.
